What, oh what could Mr. Kerr have up his sleeve...?
This year every student at RTHS needs to take the 5 Essentials survey to give a reading on what they think of the school. Please be honest but be thoughtful as you take this. You can get to the survey by clicking on the link below and logging in with your SIS# (which we will give you).
When you hear the term "American Dream," what does that mean to you? What are the components of the American Dream? Is the American Dream still important today or does it even still exist? Write a blog post in which you develop a definition for what you think the American Dream is.
When you are done, follow THIS LINK to take a survey. Then we'll compare your responses to nation at large.
Try to avoid looking at the infographic below until after you've taken the survey.
Check out this video for the toy company Goldie Blocks. This company makes toys designed specifically to promote girls' attention to sciences and engineering.
Do you recognize the song playing in the background? It's based on a song by The Beastie Boys called (appropriately enough) "Girls." What do you think of this ad using a variation of this song to promote their product? What is the purpose? See the lyrics to the song below the video.
Girls, all I really want is girls
And in the morning it's girls
Cause in the evening it's girls
I like the way that they walk
And it's chill to hear them talk
And I can always make them smile
From White Castle to the Nile
Back in the day
There was this girl around the way
She liked by home-piece M.C.A.
He said he would not give her play
I asked him, "Please?" he said, "You may."
Her pants were tight and that's ok
If she would dance I would D.J.
We took a walk down to the bay
I hope she'll say, "Hey me and you should hit the hay!"
I asked her out she said, "No way!"
I should have probably guessed their gay
So I broke North with no delay
I heard she moved real far away
That was two years ago this May
I seen her just the other day
Jockin' Mike D. to my dismay
Girls - to do the dishes
Girls - to clean up my room
Girls - to do the laundry
Girls - and in the bathroom
Girls, that's all I really want is girls
Two at a time I want girls
With new wave hairdos I want girls
I ought to whip out my girls, girls, girls, girls, girls!
In a detailed response, reflect on the issues we briefly discussed in class on Tuesday. What considerations should teachers make when teaching or discussing sex and gender in school? Should teachers be discussing these topics in school at all? What does any of this have to do with The Taming of the Shrew?
