Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Picture
We begin this year with this classic novel about human nature and what we confront in ourselves when the rules of society are stripped from us. We will be focusing on the skill of literary analysis during this unit, looking at a number of short stories as well.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

Picture
Zora Neale Hurston's unforgettable novel about a woman's quest to find herself and discover her full potential in the Jim Crow South. Students will read this book within the context of feminist criticism as well as Joseph Conrad's hero cycle. .

History and Foundations

Picture
Where does the theatre come from? How did it all begin? The year begins with an overview of the foundations of Western theatre that we still maintain in productions today. How did we come from a single person reciting to some of the more spectacular plays we know today? What essential elements should be a part of every production? We begin by building the essentials.
