This year every student at RTHS needs to take the 5 Essentials survey to give a reading on what they think of the school. Please be honest but be thoughtful as you take this. You can get to the survey by clicking on the link below and logging in with your SIS# (which we will give you).
Here are some images of sets from A Raisin in the Sun. Do you think the scene designer did a good job of interpreting Lorraine Hansberry's vision?
When you hear the term "American Dream," what does that mean to you? What are the components of the American Dream? Is the American Dream still important today or does it even still exist? Write a blog post in which you develop a definition for what you think the American Dream is.
When you are done, follow THIS LINK to take a survey. Then we'll compare your responses to nation at large. Try to avoid looking at the infographic below until after you've taken the survey.
Check out this video for the toy company Goldie Blocks. This company makes toys designed specifically to promote girls' attention to sciences and engineering. Do you recognize the song playing in the background? It's based on a song by The Beastie Boys called (appropriately enough) "Girls." What do you think of this ad using a variation of this song to promote their product? What is the purpose? See the lyrics to the song below the video. "Girls"

In a detailed response, reflect on the issues we briefly discussed in class on Tuesday. What considerations should teachers make when teaching or discussing sex and gender in school? Should teachers be discussing these topics in school at all? What does any of this have to do with The Taming of the Shrew?
Here are some of the materials we discussed about the California school district whose parents are upset about what is being discussed in their students' health classes. Where do you fall on this issue? What does this have to do with The Taming of the Shrew? |
